What an unusual grey hammy. I've never had a grey one. Of Syrians loads of cream (as child) then golden and dark golden (as adult). Then Russian: 1 winter white (grey) and one Campbells (white with black/grey bits). Then Chinese (natural dark grey with dorsal stripe); then roborovski (3 natural: ie beige top with bright white undercarriage, eyebrows and highlighting around the pink nose... and a tiny tag-like tail that you can't grab unless they're fast asleep(!!)
And I don't know about Grey Hammy but my Pandable golden hamster used to go absolutely NUTS if I DARED waken him during the day... teeth chattering and gnashing... striking out like a poisonous snake (including jump-strikes)... when he realized it was only me, not a scorpion, serpent or black widow, he calmed down massively... still took a good 10 mins to wake up. Wash ears. Drink water. Clamber on wheel: and run CONSTANTLY (never seen a hamster so keen on running) from dusk till dawn on a huge giant rat wheel, which I worked out by measuring wheel's circumference and multiplying by revolutions per average minute timesed by minutes ran per hour timesed per hours... over EIGHT MILES a night: ie over 10,000 MILES in his 3 yr + lifetime
